Morgan Freeman Leadership Programme
Kotter International launched the MAD / Morgan Freeman Leadership Programme on 2 December 2011 in Stellenbosch. The interactive programme, will help 30 MAD learners identify their individual strengths to become better leaders who can create positive change in their country.

“The Morgan Freeman Leadership Programme is a chance for MAD to equip our college-age learners with the right tools to become lifelong leaders, and show them the opportunity and responsibility they have to lead others in their communities,” said Francois Pienaar. “These young men and women have so much potential, and they give us tremendous hope for the future of South Africa.”

The Morgan Freeman Leadership Programme is generously sponsored by actor Morgan Freeman, who bid to fund the event during MAD’s 2011 USA Golf Day fundraiser, held at Liberty National Golf Club in New Jersey in June 2011.

U.S.-based Kotter International, a change company that helps leaders around the world drive transformation in their organizations, has partnered with MAD and has developed the complete curriculum for the Morgan Freeman Leadership Programme. Kotter International Senior Engagement Leader Russell Raath, a native of Zimbabwe who spent his education and early career in South Africa, will lead the two-day programme and incorporate lessons from Our Iceberg is Melting, the best-selling book by Harvard’s Dr. John Kotter, the firm’s chief innovation officer.

“’Iceberg’ is about changing and succeeding under any conditions, and its lessons are very accessible to developing leaders at every level,” said Raath. “Kotter International’s mission is ‘millions leading, billions benefiting’ and we are passionate about building the best leaders in the world, so we are thrilled to be part of this incredible programme.”

Before they arrive at the programme, learners are asked to read Our Iceberg is Melting and think about what good leadership means to them. Throughout the programme, they will develop a collective definition of leadership that they all buy into, discuss the opportunities and challenges that exist in South Africa, and discuss how they can help overcome those challenges. Finally, they will make a personal pledge to what they will do as a leader, based on the skills they begin developing at the camp, to give back and create change in their country.

MAD sincerely thanks Morgan Freeman and Kotter International for their contribution to helping create leaders of tomorrow!
